The Role of a CANVEER
CANVEERs are trained volunteers and healthcare professionals who serve as the vital link between EDUCAN-HP and the community. They conduct structured outreach activities by visiting communities and public settings where the risk of tobacco use and cancer is comparatively higher. Their primary role is to engage individuals in meaningful conversations to understand their awareness, perceptions, beliefs, and attitudes regarding cancer, its risk factors, prevention, early detection, screening, and available treatment options.
Through these interactions, CANVEERs promote evidence-based cancer awareness, address common misconceptions, and encourage individuals to adopt healthy lifestyle practices and participate in timely screening. They also collect valuable community insights that support research and help identify gaps in awareness and access to healthcare services.
The information gathered by CANVEERs enables EDUCAN-HP to develop targeted educational programs, strengthen community-based cancer prevention initiatives, and design interventions that are responsive to local needs. By connecting research with community engagement, CANVEERs play a significant role in advancing early detection, improving public awareness, and contributing to the reduction of the cancer burden.
